Genealogist and author Carol Baxter has been associated with the publishing industry for many years as follows:
- Project Officer for the genealogical publishing company, Australian Biographical and Genealogical Record (ABGR) — now the Biographical Database of Australia.
- Editor of many transcriptions of colonial records published by the ABGR project.
- Author of six "popular histories" or biographies published by major publishing houses. These publishers pay the author an advance to acquire the publishing rights. They also pay editors and proofreaders as well as sales and marketing staff to ensure that the result is the best book possible for bookshop sales and book reviews.
- Author of self-published family histories.
- Author of self-published genealogical "how to" books.
Thus, Carol has a wealth of knowledge about all of the publishing options available to genealogists as well as the intricacies of self-publishing. This knowledge will assist you in making the right publishing decisions. Don't make the expensive errors she made!
